Chess Team Update

The Alcoa Middle School Battling Bishops Chess Team traveled to Cookeville, TN on March 24th to compete in the 2007 Tennessee Scholastic Team Chess Championship. The event was hosted by Tennessee Technological University. Elementary and middle school teams from across the state played for ribbons and trophies. Our AMS team finished 4th among the 15 teams there; each having qualified by regional wins on March 3rd. The AMS team consisted of 8th graders Matt Marsh and Jamie Neeley, and 6th graders Corry Marsh and Zach Murn. Seventh grader Gabe Ford traveled as an alternate with the team. Catherine Hutton is the faculty sponsor. The Atlanta Bread Company provided table space for the Saturday study sessions as the team prepared for this highly competitive event.
