Yoke
SPONSOR: Morgan Hodson
Available to; 6th, 7th, 8th graders
Season: Year Round
Yoke is an after school, Christian club that meets on Tuesday nights from 7:00 to 8:00. Local college students that are interested in mentoring middle school students lead yoke. Each week they play fun and crazy games, sing songs, and have a lesson.
“YOKE wishes to thank Mr. Kirk for being the Master of Ceremonies at the Blount County YOKE Banquet on September 16, 2008. As the emcee, he presented the money raised from the students and faculty to the YOKE staff and gave heartfelt testimony of how he believes YOKE desires to guide students to make good choices and to encourage them during their middle school years. YOKE greatly appreciates all who gave. Ms. Hodson, Mr. Kirk, Mr. Russell, Mr. Adler, Ms. Adderhold, Mr. Adams, and Ms. Miller as well as two students, Cassie Hopkins and Brittany Pack, came to enjoy the program and represent Alcoa Middle in support of YOKE.
YOKE wants to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We have had a very fun and exciting semester filled with songs, games, pies in the face, All County Club, football at the park, carving pumpkins, Christmas celebration and much more. Although we are taking a break for the holidays, YOKE invites the 6-8th grade students at Alcoa to join us as we start back on Tuesday, January 20th.
YOKE is a non-profit organization that recruits and screens college-age volunteers as well as adult volunteers to be Christian role models to middle school students (6-8th grades only) who choose to come to weekly club meetings. Games, songs, skits, relays, and contests that revolve around a theme are part of the weekly club activities. Just before the club time is over each week, a leader will share a short devotion from the Bible. Camps and small group time are also a part of YOKE’s ministry to encourage the students. YOKE will be held every Tuesday in the evening from 7-8 pm in the gymnasium or in the cafeteria here at Alcoa Middle School unless it is announced otherwise. There is no cost to attend. Students can come participate at anytime throughout the year. Parents are welcome to meet the YOKE leaders on Tuesday nights. Mrs. Hodson, who teaches eighth grade language arts, is the teacher sponsor for YOKE this year. Feel free to ask her questions regarding YOKE at AMS or call Christina Jones at the Blount County YOKE office at 984-3366.
