8th Grade

Mrs. Tarwater urges all of her students to stay on top of the AR deadline this nine weeks. Her classes have just finished a unit on The Outsiders so if you have not taken that AR test, please do so.

Mrs. Hodson will be ordering the class t-shirts just after spring break. Make sure you have filled in your order form and given her your money before the deadline. Congratulations class of 2010!__

The eighth grade teachers are currently working on the incentive trip for the third nine weeks. To be eligible for the trip you need to have fewer than four lifeskills, fewer than four absences, "C" or better in all classes, and no trips to ISS.

Students have been assigned lessons on StudyIsland.com to complete for reading/language arts. These should be completed by April 9, 2010.

AR deadline is Wednesday, May 12, 2010.

HOMECOMING AND RECOGNITION NIGHT

Monday evening, January 18th, was an evening of recognition for many outstanding Alcoa Middle School students. First, the 8th graders who were basketball players, cheerleaders or dance team members were presented a flower and brought to the center of the gymnasium with their parents and coaches during the half time of the girls’ game. Next, between the girls’ and boys’ games, the JV teams were brought out with their coaches to be congratulated for successful seasons. Our last presentation of the night was during the half time of the boys’ game. Congratulations to the following students chosen by their peers as 2010 Homecoming representatives:
7th Grade:
Daniel Brimer, Jasmine Daniels, Duncan Gregg, Blake Holder, Kinsey Midkiff, Ali Snyder, Ally Stevenson, Emily Stubblefield, Miah Taylor, and Brenden Teeter
8th Grade:
Bryana Ezell, Grant Cogburn, Ashley King, Malik Love, Nick Miller, Kayla Newman, Allison Ramsey, Addie Rankin, Devin Tate, and Sam Tingle
Congratulation to Sam Tingle and Kayla Newman who were crowned our 2010 AMS Homecoming King and Queen! Even though this event had been rescheduled and moved to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, we still had a great turnout. Thanks to all the participants, parents, and faculty who attended to make this tradition continue.

The eighth grade team would like to remind parents and students of the incentive field trip policy. Your child must have fewer than four absences for the nine weeks, have fewer than two gum essays and four life skills, and have a “C” or better in all classes. __Coupon book money is due as soon as possible. Eighth graders can sell three books and have their Dollywood trip paid in full. If your student does not sell three books, the price for the trip is $30. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to pay for his or her trip.
