Alcoa High School Family and Community Involvement Plan

Family and Community Involvement Plan

The faculty and staff of Alcoa High School recognizes that families, community and schools have a mutual responsibility to work together in order to increase student achievement. We welcome family and community involvement in the educational process and believe this involvement is vital for academic success of our students. We are ensuring that families of children of all grade levels have an opportunity to be a part of the education process.

We encourage cooperation among the school, families and community members in order to increase involvement and participation that promote social, emotional and academic growth of our students.

Family Involvement in Schools

  • Open House-Meet new teachers and share about courses and expectations
  • Spring Curriculum Fair – Explain course offerings, showcase student work.
  • Breakfast with the Principal – Monthly breakfast with students and parents
  • Family Sports Pass – Available to cover whole family for all sports
  • Senior Meeting – Parents and students are invited to attend an information session about scholarships, deadlines, opportunities, etc.

Open Communication

  • Tornado Tracker – Sent with report cards
  • Email – Daily announcements and other activities sent to parents
  • Sign – Front of school display
  • Channel 3 – Provide announcements, programs, and activities on TV
  • Newspaper – Student newspaper will be on line and hard copy sent out
  • Daily Times – Covers student activities
  • Planners – Students are to use planners for time management and communication tool between parents and teachers
  • Annual Class Orientation – Each class is to come in individually to receive schedule, make changes, get picture ID, and tour school.
  • Curriculum Guide – Contains necessary information for students and parents to make good choices about student schedules. Graduation requirements listed in visual chart, and extracurricular opportunities are discussed

Business/Community Support

  • CTE Awards Banquet – Top 10 students from each class and students receiving department awards are invited to banquet. Sponsored by CBBC Bank
  • AAA Award – Students are awarded AAA Award for Attendance, Academics and Attitude once every nine weeks – Sponsored by Coke
  • Senior Picnic/Graduation Incentives – Senior activities at the end of the year – sponsored by the Home Bank
  • Work Based Learning – Cooperative learning environment with local Alcoa Businesses

Staff Training in Family Involvement

  • Poverty Training , English Language Learning, Special Needs Students training through system wide in-service initiatives
  • Counseling Services for parents, students, and teachers provided by Alcoa High School
