About Us

Alcoa Elementary School strives to maintain a community atmosphere with parents, students, faculty. AES supports an ever growing population of over 650 students in grades pre-k through the 4th grade. Lead by principal Merna Schott and assistant principal Janet Bledsoe, the 50 members of the faculty and staff work together closely as a unit. Presently the school is made up of eight pods which house four to five classrooms. The center of the building houses a large library filled with many books and other materials. Close by is a theater in the round which has held many programs and special events. The students at Alcoa Elementary have an Art, Guidance, Gym, Library, and Music class every week. The pod areas all have computers to support the children. Students are given computer instruction within their classroom instruction. Throughout the school year, Alcoa hosts several activities which bring friends and family to our school setting. A few of these are Lunch with a Loved One which is a picnic lunch out on our front lawn, Thanksgiving Dinner with families, Pod Nights, a PTO Spring Carnival, book fairs and International Night. There are several afterschool clubs for children such as Chess Club, Destination Imagination, Tuesday Choir, Art Club, Technology Club and Helping Hands.
