ATTENDANCE

2007-08

If a student is absent because of an emergency or illness, please call the office before 9:30 a.m on the day of the absence. A note from home must follow every absence stating the nature of the absence. All absences without a note are unexcused. Three (3) days will be allowed for a note to be brought in. After three (3) days, the absence will be an automatically unexcused permanently.
According to Tennessee State Law, an elementary student who accumulates ten (10) consecutive or fifteen (15) total unexcused absences during any semester can be considered ineligible for promotion to the next grade.
Use your parent notes wisely. Following (5) parent notes in a semester, a doctor’s excuse will be required for each additional absence or the absence will be unexcused. Accumulation of five (5) unexcused absences will be referred to the attendance supervisor. All absences without a note from the parent will be unexcused. Absences will be determined "unexcused" if they fail to meet one of the following criteria: illness of student, a death in the family, doctor's appointment, religious holidays, school-related absences, or absences prearranged with the school office. All students arriving in the classroom after 7:50 a.m. will be counted tardy. Five (5) unexcused tardies will be considered equal to one day absent in regard to awarding perfect attendance. For a tardy to be excused the student must bring a note from their parent/guardian explaining reason for being tardy.
