Academics
We are very proud of the academic success of our students and the quality of education in all three schools. Consistently ranking at or near the top of the state in value-added scores determined by each spring’s TCAP testing, the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 State Department of Education’s Report Card reports straight A’s in all academic areas for value-added. In May of 2006, the Middle School was recognized by the State’s Commissioner for Education as one of the top performing schools in the state for value-added scores. The High School has scored above the state average for ACT scores for the last five years. All three schools are “In Good Standing” according to No Child Left Behind standards and are fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). See the report card at http://www.state.tn.us/education/.
Technology
Technology is one of the many tools teachers use to help students achieve. Each classroom has access to the Internet and cable television and is being equipped with a multi-media projection system. Several fixed computer labs and mobile, wireless, laptop labs are also available to students. Students are trained at all schools to provide technical support to faculty and staff. A full function television studio at Alcoa Elementary School and satellite studios at Alcoa Middle and High Schools provide students with the opportunity to produce content for Tornado TV (Charter Cable Channel 3).
Athletics
Alcoa High School has won eight state football championships and two state basketball championships. The High School currently has teams in soccer, track, cross-country, softball, baseball, volleyball, football, golf, tennis, wrestling, and swimming. The Middle School currently has teams in softball, volleyball, track, basketball, cross-country, football, and wrestling.
