The Alcoa City Schools Family Resource Center was created to provide assistance and support to families in which there is an identified need that prevents the child from performing at their fullest potential in the classroom. The FRC networks with community programs enabling families to obtain services, to provide information and support to families of at-risk students and to assist parents in obtaining parenting information and support through home visits with one-on-one assistance and referrals to ongoing programs.
Volunteer Now to be a PACS Mentor
The Family Resource Center is recruiting volunteers for the Preparing Alcoa’s Competitive Students (PACS) Program. Each volunteer will be partnered with a student to meet on a weekly basis for the school year. The volunteer will read one-on-one with their assigned student as well as participate in other activities to build reading skills. Volunteers will be given a packet full of activities and ideas to use with the students. In addition to the academic component, students in the program are building a relationship with a caring adult that fosters his/her learning.
