November 15, 2017:

  • Congratulations to the Alcoa Singers' students who made the 2017 All East Honor Choir: Christina Richardson, Brianna Tipton, Ethan Turbyfill, Andrew Davis, Brannon Axmacher, Evie Brandt, Nate Marsh, Heath Rogers, Naomi Taylor, & L'Nyah Mattress. 11/17/17 at the Clayton Center at 1:30 PM. Free to the public.
  • ASVAB scores are used to determine if you are qualified to enlist in the military and to assign you to an appropriate job in the military. Any junior or senior who is interested in a military career may sign up with Dr. Hawkins to take the ASVAB here at AHS Tuesday, November 21. You must sign up before Friday.
  • If you are going to compete with DECA at Districts you must get a field trip permission form from Mrs. Gornto. The registration fee is due this Friday.
  • Students, we will be having a hat day to raise funds for a Christmas angel. Buy a sticker for $1 in order to wear your hat. Stickers will be sold in the Commons area both Wednesday and Friday mornings.
  • An important meeting for anyone interested in participating on our boys or girls track & field teams this spring will be held at 8 a.m. Friday, November 17, in the Lyceum. We will discuss pre-season workouts and the upcoming season at this meeting. See Coach Frary in room 2106 if you have questions.
  • Join us to discuss health issues facing today's teens and plan to take action to increase awareness among your peers. The Association of Blount County students will meet in room 1404 Thursday morning at 8:00.

November 14, 2017:

  • Tomorrow (Wednesday) is the last day to purchase prom tickets at the sale price of $45 per ticket. See Mrs. Blair in the library or Ms. Daugherty in the gym.

  • Are you looking for a part time job for the holidays. We are having a a job fair with over 25 different employers in the cafeteria this Thursday from 430-630. Come check it out on Thursday to see if there is a job for you.
  • Congratulations to the AHS boys cross country team on their 4th place finish at the state meet last weekend. Samir Koko led the team finishing 7th overall. Way to go Tornadoes!
  • See Mrs. Blair in the library or Ms Daugherty in the gym to take advantage of a holiday sale on prom tickets. They are being sold in the mornings (8-8:30am) at a discounted rate of $45 each until Nov. 15th.
  • Join us to discuss the awareness of the health issues of today's teens in the first meeting for the Association of Blount County students tomorrow morning at 8:00am in Ms Daugherty's room (1404 Wellness classroom).

November 7, 2017:

  • Boys soccer meeting will be help in Coach Shane Corley's room on Tuesday November 7 at 4:00 pm. All returning players and those interested to play must attend.

  • So you think you really know your classmates? Go to your 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade Google Classroom page. Take the poll & stay tuned for the results in the yearbook! Poll will be available online starting Wednesday, Nov 1st through Monday, Nov. 6th. To access the poll you must be logged into your school email address.

  • Seniors, here's another reminder that the TN Promise scholarship deadline is this Wednesday, November 1. If you haven't applied yet, do so ASAP at tnpromise.gov. See your school counselor if you need help.
  • The band has kicked off it's annual fruit sale! The students will have brochures going around. Check it out! We would love your support!

October 25, 2017:

  • Paid DECA members, don't forget this Wednesday is our fall lunch in Mrs. Gornto's room. You will get your DECA shirts, chick fila and pick up your competition materials.
  • Do you need help creating or updating your resume? If so free help is available. Wednesday November 1st the TN Job Coach Bus will be parked at the high school from 11am-2pm and will be staffed with experts who can help you. See Mrs. Gornto to secure your time on the bus.
  • ATTN SGA MEMBERS: There will be an SGA meeting Monday morning in Mr. Grissom's room at 7:45.

  • Seniors, if you need community service hours and would like to work the band festival here next Saturday the 28th, please see Mr. Terry in the band room.
  • The Alcoa Marching Band competed in The Vol Classic at Heritage High School over the weekend. The band received a Superior Rating and took home second place trophies in color guard and Band. The band also had the sixth highest band score of the day out of the 24 bands that competed. Great job Tornado Band!!

October 19, 2017:

  • Prom tickets are on sale in the mornings in the library and during each of the lunches this week.
  • Seniors, yearbook is running out of space! Get your senior ad turned in quickly to be featured this year! Turn contracts in to Mrs. Greer, room #2122. Extra contracts, if needed, are available outside of Greer's room.
  • The September employee of the month is Sienna Cameron. She works hard to keep the school store running and does a great job problem solving. She will get a $10 gift certificate to the store. Congrats Sienna!
  • If you are in DECA and have not chosen your competitive event but want to compete you must see Mrs. Gornto by Monday!
  • Seniors, the 2018 yearbook will feature your baby photo & written content such as a short, inspiring quote or favorite high school memory. You have until Friday, Nov. 3rd to get both items turn in for publication. No extensions will be given. Send your name, quote or memory, & high quality baby photo to Mrs. Greer at: agreer@alcoaschools.net.

October 16, 2017:

  • Prom tickets are on sale in the mornings in the library and during each of the lunches this week.
  • The Blount County Robotics season kickoff will be held Thursday, October 19th. If you are interested in Marketing, Web design, Mechanics, Coding, or Electrical Components, joining the BC Robotics Team might be right for you! Stop by and see Mr. Kerr in room 1402 for more information.
  • The school store has BOOtacular Orange Fanta in the Fruzer machine while supplies last. Come get a fruzer for $2!
  • The DECA Titans field trip permission form is due today. See Mrs. Gornto ASAP if you have not turned it in.
