Frequently Asked Questions
How do I report a Title IX Concern?
There are several ways to report a Title IX concern. First, you could tell any Alcoa City Schools employee that you believe you are experiencing sexual harassment or discrimination. They are required to report these instances to the Title IX Coordinator, who will then reach out to offer supportive measures and discuss the Complaint Process.
You can also report instances of sexual harassment or discrimination directly to the Title IX Coordinator, (Lindy McGuire) either in person, via email at
([email protected]), or by phone (865-984-0531, ext. 1106).
Lastly, you can always report instances of sexual harassment or discrimination through this website by accessing the linked form above, and the Title IX Coordinator will then reach out to you.
Is school discipline affected by the Title IX process?
Yes. In most cases, school discipline is temporarily paused during the Title IX complaint process. Once the investigation is complete, the Decision Maker will make any recommendations as to discipline for the school to follow.
There are occasions where a student can be temporarily moved to a different setting or location during the investigation as a supportive measure. However, this is not disciplinary and is more to ensure safety and equal access for all students.
What are supportive measures?
Supportive measures are non-disciplinary, non-punitive individualized supports and services offered as appropriate to either party in the Title IX Process. A formal Title IX Complaint does not have to be filed for a party to be able to receive supportive measures. Supportive measures are specifically tailored to each individual, but could include, but are not limited to, the following: counseling, course modifications, no contact orders, schedule changes, or increased monitoring/supervision.
Is reporting to the Title IX Coordinator the same as reporting to law enforcement?
No. A Title IX investigation is separate investigation from law enforcement. There are some instances where behaviors and actions reported to the Title IX Coordinator may result in the District reporting the matter to law enforcement. You may also report an instance to law enforcement at any time. If there are both law enforcement and Title IX investigations, the Title IX investigation will be paused until law enforcement gives the District notice that they may proceed with their investigation.
